Give a chance to young talents from Guinean to express themselves on an international stage, such is the vocation of #AfricaStopEbola singing competition, officially launched last Friday on the Bluezone of Kaloum in the presence of the international star Tiken Jah Fakoly. To learn more about this contest, Abdul M’Baye, coordinator of #AfricaStopEbola project in Guinea, speaks to us about the competition.
Where did the idea of the contest come from?
It was after the recording of the single Africa Stop Ebola which saw the participation of some great figures of African music such as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Salif Keita, Sia Tolno, Awadi … and the success recorded by the video on social networks that the director decided to launch this competition to allow people between 15 and 50, to perform on an international stage, and allow the first three winners to finance their professional project.
What are the objectives of the contest?
It is to fight against the epidemic that has claimed more than 2,000 lives in our country. One way for us to bring a special touch to the fight against the virus without using publicity in media. But also allow the public to understand that Ebola survivors must not be rejected or stigmatized. This project is a springboard for young talents, it allows them to be. Through this project, youth will have a space for expression and fulfillment through music.
How the competition will be held?
The first phase consisted of screening candidates through a casting for 3 days, which took place on the Bluezone. The 165 candidates registered for the contest passed in front of a jury of four members, including a cultural journalist, two music experts and a person who has been cured of Ebola. 15 candidates were selected; they will be coached and monitored for a week in different areas: the vocal identity, stage presence…
Finally, a big show will be held on June 11th in professional conditions in front of 500 people. Three winners will share the different prizes; the first will pocket 4,000 euros, the second 2,400 euros and the third 1,200 euros.
Why choose Bluezone to host this contest?
The Bluezone is now a symbol for music lovers, artists and managers. The Bluezone gives a special touch to the event. Through the Bluezone, the competition went well in a clean space with the provision of light for a smooth casting. I would like to thank the Bluezone for its support and encouragement to artists.
