More than 500 girls and boys from the schools of the municipality of Kaloum participated Saturday, February 28 at the launch of the 4th edition of “Double Dutch” or jump rope as part of a project called ” Tom’s Shoe for one one ”. This sporting event was attended by the Ambassador of the USA in Guinea, Alexander Laskaris, Kaloum communal Director of Education and officials from the NGO International Medalist Association.
Ronald Freeman, a former American athlete, Relay World Champion 4x100m, gold medalist at the Olympics in Mexico City in 1968, chairs the NGO. Objective: To share with children the values of this demanding sport: leadership, teamwork and determination.
To reward the efforts of children, the organizers have offered more than 500 pairs of shoes to the young participants. To Abdoulaye Camara, one of the trainers, it takes at least five years to learn this sport, “This is why, he says, we want children to start practicing this discipline in primary school.”
More than 18 000 young people are involved in this campaign launched in Guinea. An initiative that has the support of Ambassador Laskaris, whose country, he recalled, is committed to Guinea in the field of education.
